Phuturesole is a collection of left-of-centre contemporary dance grooves that is influenced by the stoned Jazz Funk of West London and the offbeat grooves of labels such as Compost and Laws of Motion.  Producers such as Phil Asher, IG Culture, Jazzanova, Rainer Truby and Orin Walters have been championing this sound and pushing musical boundaries.  In this compilation we have chosen some of their finer works that are more Sole than Jazz and most importantly rock the dance floor.

Highlights of this album include “Thinking if you” from the cream of Ladbroke Grove, Bugz in the Attic produce one of their finest works to date with this sentimental mood.  As with all Bugz productions various members play their role and in this track the keys and beats are produced by Orin Walters. Various other “players” are drafted in for the live feel of Bugz the productions that are complimented by the sweet vocals of Melissa Brown.  More jazz, funk hailing once again from the Grove is the production duo of Pure Filths Leroy Smith and Marcus Begg in the form of “Jerk Chicken Soul”.

Solemusic Artist Homecookin that is the pseudonym for Paul “Seiji” Dolby rocks the MPC like no other with a jazzy broken beat track that was played by Gilles Peterson on his Worldwide show on Radio 1.  It also featured on Paul Welsh’s show on Radio Clyde as well as Jazz FM.

Jazzanova provide the remix for “Tates Place” with floating strings, tremolo Wurlitzer and crunching bass with their trademark complex drum programming.

Truby Trio are Christian Prommer, Roland Appel and globe trotting DJ Rainer Truby. “Carajiilo” was licensed from hip German label Compost.  Truby Trio gather in their jazz and Brazilian influences to create a peak time percussive chant with marching drums.

People from the Goya stable in the Saga Centre are one of the key players in the whole left of centre movement.  They have had releases from the likes of Phil Asher, Bugz in the Attic, IG Culture and Victor Davis to name but a few.  KV5 is the perfect example of the solid dance floor funk they are globally renowned for.

The album also contains the dance floor devastating Live house of Graham Jerimia, the old school flavas of Guiro’s “Music”, the deep bass shaking groove of Paper Recordings artist Tony Free, the mid tempo eerie disco of Michael Ralph and to round things off the NYC soul of Angela Johnson.
