The Open Door is the project of New York’s Vicki Bell and Peter Adams. Their debut album, ‘What’s Behind Door#1’ is a fusion of soul, funk, jazz and house with elements of rock.
The first track to be taken from the album is the Open Door’s cover of Pink Floyd’s ‘Breathe’ (Dark Side of the Moon). Gilles Peterson has been supporting ‘Breathe’ since the turn of 2001. He has not only been playing it from the Radio 1 studio but also on his live sets from Miami and Ibiza earlier in the year.
It’s hard to pocket this album into any musical genre or style. Each track pays tribute to this fact, whether it be the psychedelic twists on ‘Magnetic Flow’ and ‘Open Rock’, the deep house groove of ‘Shelter Me’, the jazzy, broken beats of ‘Pleasure Tript’, the soulful edge of ‘Get Into You’ or the Bluesy keys on ‘Back To the Top’.
